How one skin app has improved my acne and lifestyle
I would never have thought that there would be an app that could tell me more about my skin condition. But, never say never!
At the end of 2021, I randomly saw a post from one of the skin positive influencers who I follow on Instagram, and she was talking about the System Akvile app that works with you to help you take care of your skin.
The app is free of charge, and available both on iOS and Android, so I decided to give it a try, I mean, why not?
At the beginning, I had some concerns that it might be difficult for me to read it all in English (as the app is entirely in English) but the manner in which the content is presented makes it easy to understand and I can implement it in my daily routine.
My acne journey
I had never suffered from a severe acne condition, but I was getting random painful cystic pimples on my skin and chest for no reason (at least, I thought so). And I was totally confused because I really tried to take care of my skin using a bunch of different skincare products. But did they work? They did work to dry out my existing pimples or make them a bit less painful. But I wanted to find the reason for my breakouts.
So, I was truly intrigued when I enrolled in System Akvile’s holistic skin health app. I was happy to find that one of the app’s co-founders is a practicing dermatologist from Germany, so I could absolutely relate to the information from the app.
Step №1 is to start a 6-week Skin Health Program
I went through all the topics and realized that there could be real triggers that worsen my skin: the muesli that I ate every single day contained lots of sugar (I didn't read the ingredients beforehand, I have never tried food journaling) and fruit juices in cartons also contain lots of sugar. I am a huge fan of orange juice, so right now I am making it myself at home with no extra refined sugar.
And I realized that actually I didn't do my skincare routine properly: I was sure that it was not obligatory to wash my face in the morning with a cleanser, I just used water. Now, I have improved my skincare habits too.
Step №2: Face Skan
The app is literally magic and tells me the exact condition of my skin on my face. It turns out that my skin was dehydrated all the time because I was using really harsh skin care products for acne-prone skin. I was getting between 30-50 points maximum in the face scan when hydrated skin usually gets 80-100 points.
Step №3: my daily habits
I try not to make extra drama for no reason but stress happens in my life and sometimes it’s difficult to control my anxiety. Plus, I am a huge coffee fan, and I know that not only can it increase my cortisol levels it can also lead to new breakouts. I try to answer Daily Questions inside the app every single day, and they are a good reminder that it is our responsibility to take care of our skin not somebody else's.
It's not easy to become “No Drama Lama” but I am trying my best: I switched coffee to green tea and matcha, and if I am craving it a lot, I do not take a strong coffee and drink it 2-3 times per week instead of every day.
New habits take some time to make, and that's okay.
I have been using the app for two months already and I see that my skin is improving thanks to a new routine and habits. I have less cystic acne both on my face and chest (it only shows up before my period), I also have more hydrated and radiant skin and a less stressed mind.
I finally found the right routine for my skin health: skincare, nutrition and wellbeing. I now think that everyone who has acne-prone skin, needs to try the System Akvile app.
